The Director of Decisioning & Credit Risk Platforms role is critical to advancing our organization’s ability to make precise, timely, and high-impact operational decisions through systematic automation and optimization of business processes. This position is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the delivery of robust, scalable, and high-performing decision support systems that directly support secured strategic objectives, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. This role additionally involves directing a team of developers and analysts, ensuring adherence to coding paradigms and practices that conform to organizational standards, and fostering collaboration across key business units. The Director will play a pivotal role in driving strategic decision-making, optimizing underwriting systems, and managing the technical execution of credit risk initiatives to support secured loan underwriting and other back-office systems.

What You’ll Do - Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Digital Innovation. Spearhead the end-to-end digital transformation of secured credit risk decisioning, leveraging AI/ML, advanced analytics, and systematic automation to optimize underwriting, portfolio management, and fraud detection.
  • Strategic Transformation. Contribute to the Credit Risk conversation throughout the company, using statistical data analysis and business acumen to propose new and innovative solutions to improve portfolio performance.
  • Executive Leadership. Oversee the development and continuous improvement of the credit risk decision engine platform, ensuring it aligns with organizational goals and regulatory requirements, with direct impact on portfolio and company P&L.
  • Team Management. Lead and mentor a team of developers and analysts, providing guidance on best practices, technical strategies, and professional development.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration. Function as the primary liaison between Credit Risk, Operations, Legal/Compliance, IT, Product, and other business units to align decision strategies with organizational objectives.
  • Project Prioritization. Evaluate and prioritize, along with Credit Risk Strategy leaders, new underwriting and remarketing strategies and policies into scalable technical designs, ensuring alignment with operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Quality Assurance. Oversee testing life cycles, including User Acceptance Testing (UAT), integration and regression testing, as well as post-implementation validation, to ensure robust and error-free implementation.
  • Data and Technology Management. Collaborate with IT development teams to define new data needs and improve existing processes, including integration with relational and NoSQL databases, REST/SOAP web services, and other cloud-native technical enhancements.
  • Reporting and Analysis. Direct the creation of reporting and analytical tools to monitor and enhance credit risk performance and process effectiveness.

What We’re Looking For – Qualifications and Skills

  • 10+ years of experience as a Credit Risk Analyst, Decision System Analyst, Rules Developer, or a related field, with 3+ years of experience in a direct, supervisory capacity overseeing multiple developers / analysts.
  • Proficiency in decision engine software (e.g., Provenir Cloud 2.0, GDS Link).
  • Proficiency in decision science implementation and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in various relational databases and management tools, including SQL Server, MariaDB, PostgreSQL or similar tools.
  • Proficiency in NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB and DynamoDB.
  • Deep knowledge of REST/SOAP API web services, JSON/XML data structures, and the technical integration best practices thereof.
  • Technical expertise in AI/ML, and functional skills with the implementation and integration of statistical model code (SAS, R, Python).
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive strategic initiatives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills, with a focus on logical design and effective implementation.
  • Strong oral and written communication and people skills to influence and align diverse stakeholders.
  • Master’s degree in business administration, financial management, information technology, data analytics, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in financial services and a proven record of delivering measurable improvements in credit and fraud risk processes.
