Director of Business Unit Compliance

The Director of Business Unit Compliance is responsible for working closely with the Company’s Risk Owners and Stakeholders, forming a partnership, providing compliance-based guidance, business alternatives, and regulatory updates. The BUCO team establishes and builds relationships with the Risk Owners, offers feedback for processes, products, and services based on regulatory requirements; assists in the development and vetting of initiatives, acts as the advocate for the business in compliance and the ambassador of compliance in the business. Additionally, this position may require travel and interaction with the various markets in which the Company operates.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and information to assist in integrating compliance objectives with other business units.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with companywide management to provide input on risks and controls and ensure understanding of compliance requirements.
  • Provide regulatory based guidance to various business partners.
  • Maintain the Action Item Database (AID) and actively engage with Risk Owners in the remediation of compliance deficiencies – as determined by external and internal examinations, audits, and complaint data.
  • Assist with reporting relating to compliance analytical data to varying recipients, highlighting implications of findings.
  • Draft compliance reports and present status updates to Senior Management and the Compliance committees.
  • Document and evaluate enforcement actions issued by various regulatory bodies, engage the proper Risk Owner, measure, and mitigate the risk to the Company. Effectively review, understand, and communicate regulatory requirements and changes.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities and leads special projects as assigned.
  • Occasional overnight travel

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in business administration or related field required.
  • Experience working with state and federal regulatory bodies strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years of industry related compliance experience.
  • Experience interacting with individuals at many organizational levels including senior management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate upward, downward, and laterally.
  • Comfort with public speaking.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of applicable compliance requirements and operational standards.
  • Promptly recognize compliance deficiencies.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team to achieve goals and identify and solve problems.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing deadline intensive environment while effectively managing multiple responsibilities and prioritizing accordingly.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to assess and present quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Windows based computers and computing software including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
